Windows Feature

I’ve wanted this feature for a while and I think it’d be an extremely useful thing to have in the shell. When opening a file browser dialogue box (i.e. choosing where to download something or opening a file), I think there should be an option to select from currently opened explorer windows.

What I often find myself doing is opening my documents folder and going to a folder for a certain class. I would be looking for lecture notes and realize I forgot to download them. I hop onto the internet and go to download the notes. Now I have three options:

  • Re-find the folder I just browsed to so I can download the notes to the correct location
  • Just dump it on my desktop
  • Open file instead of saving it.

As one can imagine, the third is the most likely choice, followed by second and ultimately the first, when really, I want the reverse. The problem is that its a few extra clicks (and sometimes it’s time consuming to go all the way to My Computer, etc.).

One of the main concepts in OS is that the past predicts the future. I think the current locations opened in your session should be a good indication about what likely folders you’re going to access. You do not need to default to them, but it would be much nicer to have a quick 2 click way to access them.
