Lies

I, of all people, should have known that something iffy was going on. I lie all the time and, yet, I did not for a second think that anyone around me would do the same to me. Call it karma, but the web of lies that surrounded my surprise birthday party was ridiculous. Here is a recount of the ones I can remember:

  1. Tiffany has a dinner with her grandma on a Thursday night.
  2. Fred has to switch section with me because he has late afternoon meetings at Google in San Francisco and therefore may not be able to teach his 8pm section on Thursdays.
  3. Apture wants to have a launch party dinner Thursday night. On Thursday, we also started to discuss having a separate launch party (not dinner) on Saturday. Why do we need two of these?
  4. Apture recommends to have dinner at Santana Row, even though there are plenty of good places to eat that aren’t miles away.
  5. After seeing Jonny in the parking lot at Santana Row, he tells me he got off work early to eat dinner with a friend. At Chili’s!
  6. After seeing Nina in the parking lot at Santana Row, she just does not answer my call.
  7. Jesse walks furiously at Santana Row despite not knowing where anything is. He also says that we’re eating at Pasta Pomodoro even though he never talked to Tristan about this.
  8. The cake is a lie.

I really had a blast and would like to thank everyone for coming out to wish me a happy birthday. It really meant a lot to see everyone again :).

I will be sending out real thank you cards later.

"Lie" is such a negative word. I prefer to call it "Creating an alternate reality". Also, I called Tristan and asked him where we were eating before I told you we were going to Pasta Pomodoro. It just so happened that when I got off the phone with him, the restaurant was 20 feet away. *shrug*
