The piece of paper in my pocket reads

EE282
I’m taking EE282, a class on computer architecture. The class is pretty interesting. The idea of the class is to teach about hardware by writing software that exploits it. The first assignment was to optimize matrix multiply and it’s pretty neat to gain a few orders of magnitude by changing how you access memory and perform your multiplication.
Things in this class are kind of out of sync. Our homework deals with things we learned about 3 weeks ago, our programming assignment about 2 weeks ago, and lecture is trudging along. It’s too much to balance.
Pixar
I’m applying to work at Pixar this coming summer. I was supposed to mail out some materials (cover letter, resume, demo reel), but I had forgotten to bring a copy of my resume to the post office. I guess that stuff is going out tomorrow… wish me luck!
工程师
Chinese for “engineer.” I have a quiz tomorrow and I have to know my parents’ professions. Strangely, I’m the only person in class who has engineer parents, and also the only person who plans on being an engineer.
The two other seniors in the class had prepared for the class and the teacher was praising how good seniors are. Another student asked, “What about Ed?” The teacher said, “Don’t embarrass him. I already know.” I’m not entirely what that means but I think I just got singled out as the lazy senior in the class.
