I don’t have much to write about today. I typically fallback to the whole Scraps thing where I write about random scribbles I make during the day. I’m now going to start a new series of fallbacks (mainly because, believe it or not, I didn’t scribble anything down!). By the way, where do you put the period in that past sentence? Having the exclamation in the parens complicates things. Oh, I also don’t know how to write.
I just got the idea for Spam Q&A. Basically, I will take a couple recent emails that make it past my spam filter that are questions and answer them. Usually, these are questions on the dorm list. It’s a little lame, but at least it isn’t a myspace/friendster/facebook quiz. Does anyone even remember friendster?
How do you define your identity
I think people in general define their identity by the groups they belong to. For example, I belong to the group of university students, computer science majors, section leaders, math camp participants, Wait Wait Don’t Tell me Fans. The last one is a cheapshot because then you very quickly get out of this whole group membership realm and into “what I like” realm. That being said, I’ve made it one of my personal goals to make it into as many of Donald Knuth’s groups as possible. If you look at his CV, there seems to be many opportunites.
All these groups on social networks suggest that this definition may have some worth. But, if you were going to base things on facebook, the most important part of your identity is your photos and your wall and definitely not your fluff friend. Speaking about social networks, there was actually a new one that I liked called diddit. The idea is that you check off things you’ve done. Other people that have done similar things are implicitly interested in the same things as you.
across the universe?
I really liked XKCD from last monday.
Want to win a Jamba Juice?
Yes.
What are you doing this Sunday?
Sunday I’ll be heading back to campus after going home to have dinner with my cousin who just got married. Also, I’ll be getting to see the newest member in my family!
Interested in Ottoman Art and Turkish Food?
I see “Ottoman” and I think about the footrest. I see “Turkish” and I think turkey. In both cases, I’m interested in the latter, and not so much in the former.
"Turkish" = "Turkey"?
I resent that sir.
