This is a random rant. Call it senior-year-angst if you will.
I’m a fourth year student so it’s about time I start looking into actually graduating. It’s a very depressing process. You realize how much of your planning breaks down and how you now have to shove a bunch of classes into your schedule. You start regretting your decisions—I wish I didn’t take it easy last spring, or I wish I hadn’t thought about doing computer security.
What do most people’s transcripts look like? I think I may have close to the minimal number of non-engineering courses one can take. I used to take pride in that but not so much anymore. I never got around to taking jazz piano or physics or even any general science class. I guess that’s what my last NatSci requirement is all about.
If I had planned ahead, I would never have known about GES4: Extinction of the Dinosaurs. 3 unit class that fulfills the NatSci requirement. It does have two half day field trips which may not work out with my schedule. Even if I don’t take the class, it’s nice to know its there.
Is it just me, or it weird how many non-natural sciencey courses pass of as fulfilling that requirement? I can take “Sleep and Dreams” and satisfy the requirement. When I think about a nice well-rounded student, I don’t think learning about sleep is up to par with what I’d consider “natural science.” Then again, I’d never sell myself as a well-rounded student so I think I won’t lose too much sleep over that. I’m sleepy now though.
