Random Bits during Finals Week

Two random, unrelated, unimportant events during my finals week.

1: Dreamhost

mrawde: on dreamhost hosting plan, it now says we have unlimited 
        bandwidth and storage..
******: muahahaha
mrawde: time to start downloading the internet
mrawde: onto itself.
******: exactly

Dreamhost, the my current webhost, had to switch my host without warning. They figured this would cause me a lot of trouble and so they decided to upgrade my hosting plan to be unlimited. How nice of them! I’m not really sure why they had to migrate me so quickly. They said it was for maintenance reasons but aren’t those kind of things planned ahead of time?

2: Project Upstream

This past week, I got a message from the screenname, WellDressedCoho. I think he asked me something along the lines of:

Help! What do I do if I’m afraid of my shadow?

I responded: “walk in the dark.”

???

This was a bit strange and I immediately thought either my friends were playing a trick on me or I was talking to a bot. For some reason though, I had to egg on. The more I talked, the more confused this person seemed.

We (the other person, who I will call CB, and I) figured out that our conversation was being relayed through a bot with the screennames WellDressedCoho and someother-Coho. Everything I sent to WellDressedCoho was forwarded to this other Coho and sent to CB and vice-versa. As it turns out, this is a social experiment by this group called Project Upstream. You can submit your screenname to partake in the experiment here though I never did. I think it scraped my screenname and CB’s using twitter.
