I hate the new facebook layout because now my home page is filled with people complaining about the new facebook layout. This so would not have been a problem on friendster/myspace/some other social network. I see a lot of empty complaints along the lines of: “fuck, the new facebook sucks.” Now and then I see a complaint about rounded corners. Sadness.
Do you remember the last time changed their layout and everyone went ape-shit crazy? Do you even remember what it used to look like before it got to its current state? Think back to when those news feed things first came out. If you complained about that and are still using facebook: why?
This page tries to enumerate all the reasons the new facebook sucks and even takes it one step further to tell you what to do about it. Here are Jason Kula’s complaints and why they make no sense to me:
- Fewer Feed options: there were options to begin with?
- Less Feed depth: people think of the feed as some special service owed to them. First, most of you didn’t even like this to begin with. Second, this complaint is about not being able to find important information. Newsflash: you have almost no part in “finding important information” in the newsfeed. It doesn’t matter how compact the stores in the news feed are—facebook’s algorithm tries to find important information for you amidst the noise. The fact that stories were smaller before does not make them any more important.
- Twitbook: It’s not facebook’s fault that you think your own friend’s updates are pointless. Solution: find different friends.
- Less Wall privacy: welcome to the internet.
Facebook probably doesn’t care about what you think about their new layout. They are a business. They have 175 million users, and they need to make money. They care about what the people paying their bills think and most likely, you are not one of them. You pay them, by giving them your data. If looking more like twitter gets you and your friends to give them more data, you can bet they’re interested.
You see, facebook doesn’t really have to care, because right now, facebook’s network is so strong. If you really want to make a statement about how much you “hate” facebook’s new layout, stop using it. It’s like the oil companies. If gas prices weren’t regulated, once they know we’re still willing to pay $4/gallon, they have no reason to bring it down.
Do not listen to this Jason Kulas guy. Don’t write on Mark Zuckerburg’s fan page wall. (While you’re at it, don’t “un-fan” him if you were his fan.) Don’t vote on stupid facebook applications. Follow the Ena Lü’s comments:

I wish the best of luck to Ena’s network of friends. Now the rest of you, convince the other 100 million facebook users to follow suit. Maybe facebook will listen then. Then you can abandon your blog and come back into facebook’s loving arms.

Facebook is a Nazi Regime that edits the things you say or do and if for any reason someone that works there sees fit they can just destroy all you have built up with no warning or recourse. I had over 1800 friends and family there and because of who I am I got a lot of fan mail and friends requests on a daily basis. Every day Facebook sent me people and suggested that I make them my friends there and so i would. But they just deleted me. They gave me some vague reason that I might have done 5 or 6 different things that might have harassed someone and so they just deleted everything. All my friends and family contacts around the world as well as all the correspondence that I had saved and built up. They told me their decision is FINAL and I have NO RECOURSE whatsoever. I am so tired of Nazi's in America ruling us and hating those opposed to themselves!!!Facebook is a Nazi Regime and is one of the bad things about AMERICA!!!
