A grad student introduced me to this game: I Wanna Be The Guy.
It’s oddly funny. Death becomes so much a part of the game that you stop caring about it. It reminds you how repetitive games can get—only in this game, repetition may not always help you go forward. I’ve only made it to the first boss, who I can finally beat, but I can never make it to the next save point.
It makes me wonder: What makes a good game? I’m pretty sure all the ones I like just have nice responsive controls and pretty little gimicks. It’s probably like acting—good actors make acting look easy.
Slighly related: I’ve been meaning to try out Settlers of Catan for a while. I’ve heard it is an amazing board game. I also want to try this variant on Monopoly where anytime someone lands on a property and the person doesn’t buy it, it goes up for bid by anyone. Someone teach me how to play Settlers!
