Life Soundtrack

I used to not believe in walking around with headphones everywhere. I remember seeing these posters mocking the ipod commercials—something along the lines of “hear ambience.” I think it’s because I never had an ipod, so I never realized the joy of living your life to a soundtrack. Now when I see people walking with earbuds, or sitting on the train, I try to guess what sort of soundtrack they tuning their life to.

I’m pretty sure my soundtrack would be Belle and Sebastian’s “The Boy With The Arab Strap.” The lyrics, not so much. But the music itself, I feel it often syncs up perfectly with my steps. I don’t think there’s any correlation between my aural and visual senses, but somehow about listening to music and simultaneously looking around makes its own narrative.

Update: I actually just listened to “The Boy With The Arab Strap” at night and it did not fit at all. It all sounded so goofy. Seems like that song and the afternoon jive for me.
